In an Indescribable Vessel and Moving Rapidly Toward an Indistinct Shore

This exhibition’s provocative title is taken from a recollection of a prophetic dream experienced by President Abraham Lincoln on the day of his assassination. Recalling his dream from the previous night, during what was to be his last cabinet meeting, he spoke these words describing the sensation the dream had given him. Do we find our nation’s course today, “moving rapidly toward an indistinct shore?” Do we have the power to change our course as a consumer driven, racially and economically divided nation, beset by the costs of war, or are we dutifully, yet unknowingly, manning a rudder stuck in place.

Chicago based artists; Christine Tarkowski & Jon Langford also had work in this show.
